Inclusion becomes meaningful when everyone has the opportunity to participate actively, gain new experiences, and be an equal member of the community. Guided by this commitment, Bucim organized the “Colorful Flavors, Equal Opportunities” initiative to mark World Food Day on October 16, promoting equal opportunities, healthy lifestyles, and social inclusion.
As part of the initiative, ten beneficiaries of the Poraka Day Center for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, accompanied by ten support persons, took part in an educational and hands-on activity hosted at the premises of the local producer “Dried Fruits and Vegetables” – the Mladenovski Family.
Participants learned about the fruit and vegetable drying process, took an active role in preparing a meal together, tasted the products and freshly prepared food, and shared experiences through conversation and social interaction.
The activity was designed to ensure that participants were not merely visitors, but active contributors. Through their direct involvement in practical tasks, they had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, acquire new knowledge, and build self-confidence in an environment that encouraged cooperation and acceptance.
“Our goal is to translate inclusion into meaningful opportunities for participation. We believe that everyone has potential that deserves to be recognized, encouraged, and supported. Through initiatives like this, we aim to help overcome barriers to social inclusion and foster an environment where every individual feels accepted, valued, and equal. At Bucim, caring for our community also means creating opportunities for people to participate fully in community life,” said Kristina Krsteva, Director of Sustainable Development at Bucim.
The initiative reflects Bucim’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility, grounded in respect for human dignity, equal opportunities, and support for vulnerable members of society. By encouraging active participation and meaningful social connections, the company seeks to contribute to building a more inclusive and supportive local community.
Because true inclusion is not simply about being present – it is about having the opportunity to participate, contribute, and belong.
